地球外生命体の待機 (English title: Waiting for Contact) (1990) is an unreleased Japanese film produced by 甘いフェード映画会社. The film was intended for American audiences and a summer direct-to-video release, but failed negations with overseas distributors left the film untouched, and ultimately displaced when, in 1994, 甘いフェード映画会社 fell to bankruptcy and liquidated its assets to an unknown American buyer.

In 2015, an anonymous source connected to the film’s production discovered the film’s original soundtrack on a cassette tape and quietly leaked the material to torrent and file sharing websites with the accompanying artwork for the soundtrack’s intended CD release. The soundtrack has since been digitally remastered by Andrew Henry and redistributed on Bandcamp by Commercial Dreams Ltd.

It is believed that a 16mm print of 地球外生命体の待機 is being kept in the vaults of a film production conglomerate, but the exact whereabouts of this print are unclear.

The film’s director and composer are, to this day, unknown.
